USG Small Parts (Ultrasound of Small Superficial Structures)

A Small Parts Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging test used to examine superficial (small) structures in the body, such as:

✅ Thyroid Gland – Detects nodules, goiter, cysts, and thyroiditis.
✅ Scrotum/Testes – Evaluates testicular masses, varicocele, epididymitis, hydrocele, and torsion.
✅ Breasts (in both men & women) – Identifies lumps, cysts, fibroadenomas, and signs of malignancy.
✅ Salivary Glands (Parotid & Submandibular) – Detects stones, infections, cysts, and tumors.
✅ Lymph Nodes – Assesses enlargement, inflammation, or metastasis.
✅ Soft Tissue Lumps/Masses – Examines lipomas, cysts, or swelling in various parts of the body.

Why is a Small Parts Ultrasound Done?

• To check for lumps, swelling, or pain in superficial areas.

• To evaluate infections, cysts, or tumors.

• To monitor known benign or malignant conditions.

• As a follow-up to abnormal blood tests or imaging results.

Preparation for the Test

• No fasting is required (unless combined with other tests).

• Wear loose clothing for easy access to the area being examined.

• Remove any jewelry if scanning the neck, breast, or salivary glands.

Procedure

1. The patient lies on an examination table.

2. A gel is applied to the area being examined.

3. A transducer (probe) is moved over the skin to capture images.

4. The process is painless and takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the area scanned.
