A USG KUB (Kidneys, Ureters, Bladder) / Pelvis / Upper Abdomen is an ultrasound imaging test used to evaluate the urinary system and related abdominal structures.


1. USG KUB (Kidneys, Ureters, Bladder)

Purpose:

  • Detect kidney stones, cysts, or infections

  • Check for ureter obstructions

  • Assess bladder size, shape, and abnormalities

  • Identify prostate enlargement (in males)

  • Evaluate urinary retention or infections

Preparation:

  • Drink plenty of water and hold urine before the test (for a full bladder)

  • No fasting required


2. USG Pelvis

Purpose:

  • In women: Evaluates uterus, ovaries, and any fibroids, cysts, or pelvic masses

  • In men: Assesses the prostate gland

  • Detects fluid accumulation or pelvic infections

Preparation:

  • Drink at least 1 liter of water for a full bladder

  • Fasting may not be required unless combined with an abdominal scan


3. USG Upper Abdomen

Purpose:

  • Evaluates the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and bile ducts

  • Detects liver diseases (fatty liver, cirrhosis)

  • Identifies gallstones, pancreatitis, or spleen enlargement

Preparation:

  • Fasting for 6-8 hours (for better visualization of organs)


Procedure:

  1. Lying down on an examination table

  2. A gel is applied to the skin for better sound wave transmission

  3. A transducer (probe) is moved over the area to capture images

  4. The images appear on a monitor for analysis
