Purpose:
Detect kidney stones, cysts, or infections
Check for ureter obstructions
Assess bladder size, shape, and abnormalities
Identify prostate enlargement (in males)
Evaluate urinary retention or infections
Preparation:
Drink plenty of water and hold urine before the test (for a full bladder)
No fasting required
Purpose:
In women: Evaluates uterus, ovaries, and any fibroids, cysts, or pelvic masses
In men: Assesses the prostate gland
Detects fluid accumulation or pelvic infections
Preparation:
Drink at least 1 liter of water for a full bladder
