CECT Neck + Chest (Contrast-Enhanced CT of the Neck and Chest)

A CECT Neck + Chest is a contrast-enhanced CT scan that provides detailed imaging of the neck (thyroid, larynx, pharynx, lymph nodes) and chest (lungs, heart, mediastinum, and blood vessels) using intravenous contrast dye. It is commonly performed for tumor detection, infections, vascular abnormalities, and trauma evaluation.

Indications for CECT Neck + Chest:

🔹 Cancer Diagnosis & Staging – Detects primary tumors in the neck, thyroid, lungs, or mediastinum and evaluates metastasis.
🔹 Thyroid & Parathyroid Abnormalities – Nodules, goiter, or malignancy assessment.
🔹 Lymph Node Enlargement – Evaluates infections, tuberculosis, lymphoma, or metastasis.
🔹 Laryngeal & Pharyngeal Disorders – Vocal cord paralysis, masses, or inflammatory conditions.
🔹 Tracheal & Esophageal Abnormalities – Airway obstruction, strictures, or tumors.
🔹 Pulmonary Infections & Lung Masses – Pneumonia, tuberculosis, or lung tumors.
🔹 Vascular Disorders – Carotid artery disease, aneurysms, or thrombosis.
🔹 Trauma Evaluation – Identifies fractures, soft tissue injuries, and hematomas.
🔹 Postoperative & Treatment Follow-Up – Monitors tumor response, infections, or surgical outcomes.

Procedure:

1. Preparation:

   • Fasting for 4–6 hours before the scan.

   • Serum Creatinine Test to check kidney function (required for contrast administration).

   • Remove metallic objects around the neck and chest (jewelry, piercings).

2. During the Scan:

   • The patient lies on a CT scan table, head and chest positioned properly.

   • An IV contrast dye (iodine-based) is injected for enhanced imaging.

   • The scanner captures images of the neck and chest before and after contrast injection.

   • The procedure takes 15–20 minutes.

Results & Interpretation:

✅ Normal Neck & Chest Structures: No abnormal masses, infections, or vascular issues.
🚩 Neck or Lung Masses: Possible malignancy or benign tumors.
🚩 Thyroid Abnormalities: Nodules, cysts, or thyroid cancer.
🚩 Lymph Node Enlargement: Could indicate infection, lymphoma, or metastasis.
🚩 Pulmonary Infections: Pneumonia, tuberculosis, or lung abscess.
🚩 Vascular Abnormalities: Carotid artery stenosis, aneurysms, or pulmonary embolism.
🚩 Tracheal or Esophageal Compression: Due to tumors, goiter, or inflammation.
