A CECT KUB is a contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scan that provides detailed imaging of the kidneys, ureters, and bladder using intravenous contrast dye. It helps in the evaluation of kidney stones, tumors, infections, and urinary tract abnormalities.
🔹 Kidney Stones (Urolithiasis) & Obstruction – Detects calculi, their location, size, and obstruction severity.
🔹 Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) with Complications – Evaluates kidney infections, abscesses, and pyelonephritis.
🔹 Hematuria (Blood in Urine) – Rules out tumors, infections, or vascular abnormalities.
🔹 Renal Masses & Tumors – Differentiates between benign and malignant lesions.
🔹 Bladder Tumors or Structural Abnormalities.
🔹 Ureteric Strictures or Hydronephrosis.
🔹 Postoperative or Trauma Evaluation.
Preparation:
Fasting for 4–6 hours before the scan.
Serum Creatinine Test to check kidney function before contrast administration.
Drink plenty of water unless instructed otherwise.
During the Scan:
The patient lies on a CT scan table.
An IV contrast dye (iodine-based) is injected to enhance blood vessels and urinary tract structures.
The scanner takes multiple images before and after contrast injection.
The procedure takes 10–15 minutes.
✅ Normal KUB Structures: No stones, tumors, or urinary tract obstruction.
🚩 Kidney Stones: Visible as high-density objects; can cause hydronephrosis or obstruction.
🚩 Urinary Tract Infection with Complications: Swollen kidneys, abscess formation, or pyelonephritis.
🚩 Renal or Bladder Tumors: Contrast-enhanced masses indicating abnormal growth.
🚩 Ureteric Strictures or Hydronephrosis: Blockage leading to urine buildup.
🚩 Post-Trauma Findings: Kidney lacerations, bleeding, or rupture.
✔ More detailed than ultrasound or plain X-ray KUB.
✔ Essential for detecting kidney stones, tumors, infections, and obstructions.
✔ Guides treatment decisions (surgery, lithotripsy, stenting, or medical management).
