🧪 Triple Marker Test / Triple Test

Purpose:

Pregnant women ke liye ye test fetus ke developmental abnormalities ko screen karne ke liye hota hai — jaise:

• Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21)

• Edward Syndrome (Trisomy 18)

• Neural tube defects (jaise Spina Bifida)

Measures:

1. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) – A protein produced by the baby.

2. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) – A hormone produced within the placenta.

3. Unconjugated Estriol (uE3) – A hormone produced by both fetus and placenta.

Ideal Time to Take Test:

📅 15 to 20 weeks of pregnancy (best between 16–18 weeks)

Why It’s Important:

• Early detection of chromosomal or neural tube defects

• Helps in further diagnostic planning if needed (like amniocentesis)

Type of Test:

🩸 Simple blood test, non-invasive for the baby.

Accuracy:

It’s a screening, not a diagnosis — it tells the risk, not confirmation. If results are high-risk, further tests (like ultrasound, amniocentesis) may be advised.
