Anti-Phospholipid Antibody IgG Test:

Test Details:

The Anti-Phospholipid Antibody (IgG) test measures the presence of IgG antibodies against phospholipids, which are components of cell membranes. These antibodies are associated with Anti-Phospholipid Syndrome (APS) and may increase the risk of blood clots, recurrent miscarriages, and autoimmune disorders like lupus.

  • Sample Type: Blood sample (serum)
  • Methodology: ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) or other immunoassay techniques
  • Purpose:
    • Diagnose Anti-Phospholipid Syndrome (APS)
    • Assess risk for thrombosis (blood clots)
    • Investigate causes of recurrent miscarriages
    • Monitor autoimmune diseases like Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

Precautions Before the Test:

Fasting: Not required (unless specified by the doctor).
Medications:

  • Inform your doctor about anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, heparin), immunosuppressants, or steroids as they may affect results.
  • Avoid recent high-dose aspirin or NSAIDs before the test unless prescribed.
    Timing:
  • If being tested for APS, the test should be repeated after 12 weeks to confirm persistent positivity.
    Health Conditions:
  • Fever, infections, or recent vaccinations might cause temporary elevations. Discuss with your doctor.

Interpreting Results:

🔹 Negative (<15 GPL U/mL) → No significant antibodies detected
🔹 Borderline (15-20 GPL U/mL) → May require retesting
🔹 Positive (>20 GPL U/mL) → Possible APS, requires further evaluation

Note: A positive result alone does not confirm APS. It must be correlated with clinical symptoms and other tests (IgM, IgA, Lupus Anticoagulant).
