This panel helps diagnose, monitor, and assess the prognosis of Multiple Myeloma (MM) by detecting abnormal plasma cell activity, monoclonal proteins, and disease progression markers.
β Purpose: Detects and identifies monoclonal (M) proteins produced by myeloma cells.
β Findings:
M-spike (Monoclonal Protein Band): Sign of clonal plasma cell proliferation.
Polyclonal Gammopathy: Seen in infections, autoimmune diseases.
Hypogammaglobulinemia: Low immune function, common in MM.
β Purpose: Measures levels of major immunoglobulins.
β Findings:
IgG or IgA Myeloma: Overproduction of a single type (most common forms).
IgM: Usually normal or low in MM (high levels suggest WaldenstrΓΆmβs Macroglobulinemia).
β Purpose: Measures tumor burden and disease progression.
β Findings:
Higher levels: Indicate poor prognosis and advanced disease.
Used in staging (Revised ISS system).
β Purpose: Detects light chain imbalance, crucial for Light Chain Myeloma.
β Findings:
Elevated Free Kappa/Lambda Ratio: Sign of monoclonal plasma cell disorder.
Light Chain (Bence Jones) Myeloma: Excess free light chains cause kidney damage.
β Purpose: Detects Bence Jones Proteins (free light chains in urine).
β Findings:
Present in Light Chain Myeloma, a more aggressive form.
πΉ Complete Blood Count (CBC): Checks for anemia, thrombocytopenia.
πΉ Calcium Levels: High calcium due to bone breakdown.
πΉ Renal Function Tests (Creatinine, BUN): Evaluates kidney damage.
πΉ Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH): Marker of aggressive disease.
πΉ Bone Marrow Biopsy: Confirms >10% abnormal plasma cells in marrow.
πΉ Whole-Body CT / MRI / PET-CT: Detects bone lesions, fractures, and tumor activity.
β Confirms Diagnosis β Differentiates MM from other plasma cell disorders.
β Assesses Tumor Burden & Prognosis β B2M, Light Chains help in staging.
β Monitors Treatment Response β Tracks changes in M-protein and light chain levels.
β Detects Kidney & Bone Damage Early β Prevents complications.
