Fever Profile 1.1

Fever Profile 1.1 – Test Details & Precautions

The Fever Profile 1.1 is a diagnostic panel used to detect common causes of fever, including Malaria, Typhoid, and other infections. It includes the following tests:

  1. Malaria Antigen Test – Detects malaria infection.
  2. Widal Test – Checks for Typhoid fever.
  3. Typhidot IgG/IgM Test – Identifies Typhoid antibodies.
  4. CBC (Complete Blood Count) – Evaluates overall blood health and infection signs.

1. Malaria Antigen Test

Purpose: Detects Plasmodium falciparum & Plasmodium vivax antigens in the blood.
When to Test? If experiencing fever with chills, sweating, and body aches.

🔹 Results Interpretation:
Positive – Malaria infection present.
Negative – No malaria detected, but further testing may be needed if symptoms persist.

Precautions:

  • No fasting required.
  • If fever continues, a repeat test may be necessary.

2. Widal Test

Purpose: Detects antibodies against Salmonella typhi & paratyphi (Typhoid Fever).
When to Test? After 5-7 days of fever for accurate results.

🔹 Results Interpretation:
Positive (≥1:160 titer) – Suggests Typhoid infection (further confirmation may be needed).
Negative – No significant typhoid infection detected.

Precautions:

  • May give false-positive or false-negative results (should be confirmed with Typhidot or blood culture).
  • Avoid testing too early (<5 days of fever) for better accuracy.

3. Typhidot IgG/IgM Test

Purpose: Detects IgM (recent) & IgG (past) antibodies against Salmonella typhi.
When to Test? After 2-3 days of fever.

🔹 Results Interpretation:
IgM Positive – Recent/active Typhoid infection.
IgG Positive – Past Typhoid infection or immunity.
Both Negative – No Typhoid infection.

Precautions:

  • More specific than Widal test.
  • No fasting required.

4. CBC (Complete Blood Count)

Purpose: Identifies infection, anemia, or blood abnormalities.
What It Detects?

  • Increased WBCs – Suggests bacterial infection.
  • Low platelets – Common in Dengue or Malaria.
  • Low Hemoglobin (Hb) – May indicate anemia.

Precautions:

  • No fasting required.
  • Can be done anytime during fever episodes.

Summary of Fever Profile 1.1

Test Purpose When to Test? What it Detects?
Malaria Antigen Detects Malaria infection If fever with chills/sweats Malaria (P. vivax, P. falciparum)
Widal Test Typhoid fever screening After 5-7 days of fever Salmonella typhi/paratyphi
Typhidot IgG/IgM Confirms Typhoid infection After 2-3 days of fever Recent (IgM) or past (IgG) Typhoid
CBC Detects infections/anemia Anytime during fever WBC, platelet count, hemoglobin

General Precautions:

No fasting required.
✔ Best tested based on fever duration for accurate results.
False positives can occur in Widal & Typhidot tests—blood culture may be needed for confirmation.
✔ If symptoms persist, additional tests for Dengue, Leptospirosis, or Viral Fever may be necessary.
