Diabetic Profile 1.2

Diabetic Profile 1.2 – Test Details & Precautions

The Diabetic Profile 1.2 is a combination of tests used to assess blood sugar levels, long-term diabetes control, kidney function, and lipid levels. It includes:

  1. Blood Glucose – Fasting (F) & Postprandial (PP)
  2. HbA1c (Glycated Hemoglobin)
  3. Lipid Profile
  4. Creatinine

1. Blood Glucose (Fasting & Postprandial – F/PP)

Purpose:

  • Measures blood sugar levels to diagnose and monitor diabetes.
  • Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS): Measures sugar levels after an 8-12 hour fast.
  • Postprandial Blood Sugar (PPBS): Measures sugar levels 2 hours after a meal.

🔹 Normal Range:

  • Fasting (FBS): 70-99 mg/dL (Diabetes: ≥126 mg/dL)
  • Postprandial (PPBS): <140 mg/dL (Diabetes: ≥200 mg/dL)

Precautions:

  • Fasting required for FBS (8-12 hours, only water allowed).
  • PPBS test should be taken exactly 2 hours after starting a meal.

2. HbA1c (Glycated Hemoglobin)

Purpose:

  • Measures average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months.
  • Helps diagnose and monitor diabetes and prediabetes.

🔹 Normal Range:

  • Non-diabetic: <5.7%
  • Prediabetes: 5.7% – 6.4%
  • Diabetes: ≥6.5%
  • Target for diabetics: <7% (for good glucose control)

Precautions:

  • No fasting required.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol before the test.

3. Lipid Profile

Purpose:

  • Measures cholesterol and triglyceride levels to assess heart disease risk.
  • Important for diabetics as they have a higher risk of heart disease.

🔹 Normal Range:

  • Total Cholesterol: <200 mg/dL
  • LDL (Bad Cholesterol): <100 mg/dL
  • HDL (Good Cholesterol): >40 mg/dL (men), >50 mg/dL (women)
  • Triglycerides: <150 mg/dL

Precautions:

  • Fasting required (9-12 hours) for accurate results.
  • Avoid high-fat meals and alcohol for 24 hours before the test.

4. Creatinine

Purpose:

  • Measures kidney function since diabetes can affect kidney health.
  • High creatinine levels indicate kidney dysfunction or diabetic nephropathy.

🔹 Normal Range:

  • Men: 0.7 – 1.3 mg/dL
  • Women: 0.6 – 1.1 mg/dL

Precautions:

  • No fasting required.
  • Stay hydrated, but avoid excessive protein intake before the test.
