NCCT PNS / ORBIT / NOSE (Non-Contrast CT of Paranasal Sinuses, Orbit, and Nose)

A Non-Contrast Computed Tomography (NCCT) scan of the PNS, Orbit, and Nose is an advanced imaging test used to evaluate sinus infections, facial trauma, orbital diseases, and nasal structural abnormalities.

Indications for NCCT PNS / ORBIT / NOSE:

🔹 Sinusitis (Acute or Chronic) – Detects inflammation, fluid accumulation, or polyps.
🔹 Nasal Blockage or Deviated Nasal Septum (DNS).
🔹 Nasal Polyps or Masses – Evaluates abnormal growths.
🔹 Facial Trauma or Fractures – Assesses bone fractures in the nose, orbit, or sinuses.
🔹 Orbital Disorders (Proptosis, Orbital Cellulitis, Tumors).
🔹 Pre-Surgical Evaluation for Sinus/Nasal Surgery (FESS – Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery).
🔹 Foreign Body Detection in the Nose or Orbit.

Procedure:

  1. Preparation:

    • No fasting or contrast dye is required.

    • Remove metallic objects around the face (glasses, jewelry).

  2. During the Scan:

    • The patient lies on a CT scan table, head positioned properly.

    • A CT scanner rotates around the face, capturing high-resolution images.

    • The procedure takes 5–10 minutes.

Results & Interpretation:

✅ Normal Sinuses & Nasal Structures: No fluid buildup, swelling, or abnormalities.
🚩 Sinusitis: Thickened sinus walls, fluid collection, or air-fluid levels.
🚩 Nasal Polyps or Masses: Soft tissue growths blocking airflow.
🚩 Deviated Nasal Septum (DNS): Abnormal bending of the nasal septum.
🚩 Orbital Abnormalities: Infections, fractures, or swelling.
🚩 Facial Fractures: Bone breaks in the orbit, nasal bones, or sinuses.

Why is NCCT PNS / ORBIT / NOSE Important?

✔ Accurate diagnosis of sinus and nasal conditions.
✔ Essential for pre-surgical planning (FESS, rhinoplasty, orbital surgeries).
✔ Quick and effective evaluation of trauma or infections.
